The project encompassed a complete modernization of the campus’ student union building, which included a complete reconstruction of the kitchen, and the creation of a café and a quiet study/ reading area. In addition to the modernization, a new dining and gathering space area, as well as new restroom areas were added to the building.
The addition was slab-on-grade construction with a combination of steel and wood framing for the structure. The new construction included aluminum storefront windows, ceramic tiled restrooms, and both a brick and wood siding façade. The modernization portion of the project included mechanical and electrical upgrades, including the retrofit of new fire suppression and HVAC systems. Some new interior architectural features included 3 new large skylights with shafts down to the ceiling level, curved walls with stained T&G wood facing and glass block, and new flooring, ceiling and wall finishes throughout the facility.
